Zacharias asserts that, "to be disappointed in Christianity, one really has to say, 'I am totally transcendent over reality and cannot see any ultimate purpose whatsoever." In reality, a person doubting the Christian faith may be struggling with one or more of the following "connected truths": - We are made by a personal God.
- We are fashioned individually but with a hunger for community.
- We are unable in our own strength to attain what it takes to live peaceably with God and our fellow human beings.
- We have a blueprint in the person of Jesus that points us to our ultimate destiny.
- We are able to know the blessing of awe and humility, both of which are prerequisites for human dignity and for recognizing our limitations.
- We are made to live by reason and faith that are so intertwined that they are the only reasonable way we can transcend ourselves."
Which one of these statements challenges you the most and why? (See pages 61-69)
